The AI Incident Response Sprint

The Montréal node of the AI Incident Response Sprint, a weekend research sprint at Ω Labs, organized with Apart Research and CeSIA. Turn the first documented cases of an AI system autonomously breaching a third party into something defenders, regulators, and communicators can actually use. No prior background in incident response required.

Tracks Containment: what standard would have stopped this. Draft a v0.1 standard for guardrails-off evaluations, or map which controls (canary credentials, egress tripwires, credential scoping, kill criteria) would have interrupted each phase of the intrusion, and at what cost. What happened, and what breaks next: a forensic read of the public record, a causal account of why the monitoring was not there, or a one-day verification checklist for labs and defenders. Regulatory response: draft the request for information the EU AI Office should send, fill in the existing EU and California incident-reporting forms from public sources alone and report what they miss, or write what a regulator should require before a resumption decision counts. Communication: audit how the incident travelled channel by channel, or build the crisis-communication playbook that should exist before the next one. Open track: including the defender's dilemma, where responders were refused by hosted frontier models on much of the forensic work, and prioritization across everything the incident suggests we should do.

What happens after $2,000 in cash prizes across all tracks, globally. Top teams continue through the Apart Fellowship for further research and mentorship, with mentor introductions from the organizing team and judges, and a path toward a publishable write-up.

Who should join Researchers, students, engineers, and security practitioners, plus anyone working on or curious about incident response and forensics, AI governance and regulation, forecasting, standards and audit, or science communication. Teams of one to five. No team needed in advance.
