Hack-a-ton with Friends

SMIT Club is a student-run club that gives Edmonton post-secondary students hands-on experience through community-built events, bringing together software, IT, business, design, and creative students to learn from each other.

This hackathon is designed for first-timers. Whether you're into software development, game design, animation, cinema, digital or web design, business analysis, or IT systems administration, this is a place to showcase your skills, no experience required. First-year and first-time participants are especially welcome.

What you'll walk away with: a real project for your portfolio or resume; new connections across disciplines you might not normally work with; practical experience building something real under a tight deadline; and a first hackathon under your belt so the next one feels a lot less intimidating.

To enter, RSVP through the free ($0) Eventbrite ticket. Spots are limited, so register early, especially if you're coming from outside NAIT. You must check in and attend the kickoff in person — remote work is only allowed after you have signed in; this is not a fully remote event.

Event Schedule: November 14th, 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Check-in & team building. 11:00 AM - 11:15 AM: Participant teams set. 11:15 AM - 12:00 PM: Opening orientation & category announcement. November 14th-15th, 12:00 PM - 12:00 PM: Main build window (24 hours). November 15th, 12:00 PM - 1:30 PM: Submission review & eligibility check. 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM: Participant presentations & demos. 3:30 PM - 5:00 PM: Networking reception.
